Cinco de Mayo is sort of like the Mexican St. Patrick’s Day for Americans. Its an excuse for latinos and non-latinos alike to get together with friends and get their drink on. As an American born Latina, and true party rocker at heart, I love this day, and I’m not alone. May 5th is celebrated nationally here in the U.S. and regionally in Mexico, particularly in the state of Puebla, where the holiday is called El Día de la Batalla de Puebla (English: The Day of the Battle of Puebla). They celebrate the unlikely win of the Mexican army over the French in 1862. Here in the states Cinco de Mayo is used to celebrate Mexican heritage and pride and also to commemorate the freedom and democracy that came about in Mexico after the first few years of the American Civil War. I’m sharing this information with you dear reader, just as an FYI. I wanted to make sure you knew Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico’s Independence Day, which is actually celebrated on September 16th.

Dash of Triple Sec
Juice of 1/2 lime or lemon
Pour over crushed ice, stir. Rub the rim of a stem glass with rind of lemon or lime, spin in salt—pour, and sip.
